It is that time again. Holidays are strange. No matter how over-hyped and commercial I understand them to be, there is still some genuine comfort which accompanies colorful lights, cold weather, festive music, and rich food. Gracie Thibble is from the SF Bay Area. She barely turned eighteen a few months ago and has a wild side that is only recently being allowed to surface. Girls like Gracie are rare. Terri Belk was not so sure about letting me photograph her without makeup. I am usually not so sure about photographing any girl WITH makeup. My favorite flavor of beauty is natural. Terri has a lot of that, mixed with a personality that is difficult to predict. Terri can at times be the most confident and upbeat person you will ever meet. And at other times, she appears to be the most vulnerable and in need of reassurance. It is as if Terri belongs to some emotionally complex race of beings called Human. Poor girl.

Pharell Williams says that happiness is feeling like a room without a roof. We can only guess at the meaning of this metaphor. I do know that when I took Helena De Sesa to the rooftop of Brentwood Plaza on Wilshire, I was happy. Helena_s smile is contagious. It was a bright hot day, but it takes a lot more than uncomfortable weather to break the spirit of this young woman. Helena has a great voice and works hard towards her singing aspirations. Perhaps one day she will allow me capture a verse or two on video. Faust 72, Dynastie Crisis is the song in the bonus clip.

Description:
One of the first things that Li Zheng did once she arrived to be photographed, was ask if I had a razor she could borrow for her underarms. I tracked one down and asked if I could take some pics whilst she shaved. Li was happy to accommodate and said she loved quirky photo concepts.
Months before this shoot, I actually had photographed Li at an adult entertainment expo. She was a booth girl and I was there taking pictures of all the characters you_d find at such a convention. It wasn_t until she arrived that I noticed her familiar face from among the quick photos that I snapped that day.

Jules Diamond has a bubbly personality. There are girls who are simply agreeable and then there are girls who truly enjoy taking photos and being creative and provocative. Jules is of the latter ilk. In reality, She is not an optometry student, but you can imagine her as one if you wish. She did just recently attend college and received her associates degree, so perhaps this is why she can pull off the academic swagger. I recall when I was in college, many, many moons ago, and being fascinated by the daily fashion show that the girls would put on. It also helps to attend a college in a desert climate-the hotter the weather, the more minimal the coverage. That is one of the few things I miss about Arizona.

In the summertime, when the weather is hot ... we all go insane and choose to give our money away to multi-billion dollar corporations that run resort casinos in Las Vegas. The upside is that they provide interesting backdrops for photographing beautiful women like Jazz Reilly. Here, we did some exploration of the pools at the Cosmo. Part of me feels at home in Vegas. Safety, obscurity, just another freak in the Freak Kingdom.
