Description: In the winter of 1590, Goltzius and his Pelican company (master printers with wives and mistresses) approached the Marquis of Alsace, a famous art fan, with a request for money to publish albums with illustrations to the Old Testament and Ovid's Metamorphoses. For greater persuasiveness, Goltzius suggests staging six stories symbolizing sexual taboos: fornication, incest, adultery, pedophilia, prostitution, and necrophilia. The Marquis declares that he will give the required amount, provided that the performance will inflame him.
