I_m Katherine Curtis, you_re watching Naked News. Well, as predicted, the weather battered states of New York and New Jersey were hit with yet ANOTHER storm. This is the last thing they needed after the devastation caused by hurricane Sandy only a few days ago. And like its predecessor, this latest nor_easter has done its fair share of damage. 60-mile-per-hour winds have brought down trees and power lines, blacking out tens of thousands of more homes across the region. In addition to a number of evacuations, hundreds of flights in and out of both states were cancelled, leaving thousands of travelers stranded. To date, nearly 100 thousand people have registered for emergency housing assistance n a number that_s expected to increase in the coming days. An analysis of the US presidential vote tally has shed some light on exactly how Barack Obama handily won Tuesday_s election. Though his margin of victory in the popular vote was slim, Obama scored major victories in some key demographics. With more here_s Eila Adams. Kat, president Obama proved to be the candidate of choice for women, latinos, African americans and younger voters. Obama garnered 55-percent of the female vote, compared to just 44-percent for Mitt Romney. His support among the Latino and African American community was even more impressive, where he scored 71-percent and 93-percent of votes, respectively. And once again, his support among younger voters helped put him over the top. 60-percent of voters between the ages of 18 and 29 submitted ballots for Obama, Kat.Sounds to me like the Republican party has some major work to do. So where did most of ROMNEY_S support come from?Well, he DID get most of the white vote Kat, the problem is, that_s a shrinking demographic and not enough of them showed up at the polls. 72% versus 74% in 2008. Yeah, that IS a problem, it_s surprising because just over a week ago it seemed like the Romney campaign had all the momentum. What happened?Well that depends on who you ask. But in terms of demographics, as I said, Romney simply wasn_t able to compete in several key groups: specifically African-Americans, Hispanics, and the largest of all, women. In fact, Romney trailed Obama with SINGLE women by a staggering 38 percent, a statistic due in no small part to the Republican party_s heightened focus on issues like contraception and abortion. Other complaints from conservative strategists include Paul Ryan_s inability to vitalize the ticket, and Hurricane Sandy_s domination of the news cycle in the final days of the campaign. Hello everyone - I_m Laura Conner, WELCOME to Naked News. We_re on the eve of a mammoth presidential election in the US, and both candidates are doing everything they can to get some last minute votes. Senior anchor Victoria Sinclair has been following the campaigns, and she joins us now for a look at all the last minute running around. Laura, with just one day to go, both President Obama and Mitt Romney put on a full court press in order to gain votes in swing states. The candidates - and their spouses and running-mates - all have last minute stops in battleground states that include Ohio, Iowa, and Colorado. Both candidates are bringing out the star-power to try and influence voters - Obama will be appearing with Bruce Springsteen and Jay-Z in Ohio, while Romney will be at an event in New Hampshire with Kid Rock.As for who will win, the latest numbers suggest it is literally anybody_s guess. The most recent CNNORC International poll has Obama and Romney in a dead heat, with each getting support from 49-percent of likely voters. Eila Adams has been analyzing some numbers for us. What can you tell us Eila? As you just mentioned Vic, it_s a dead heat and several other recent polls are showing similar results. In most cases no candidate leads the other by more than 3 points. However, respected statistician Nate Silver claims that Obama has an 82-percent chance of winning. Silver gained prominence after the 2008 election, when he correctly predicted the results in 49 out of 50 states.That_s pretty impressive, but I take it not everyone is trusting Silver_s predictions.Well, certainly not anyone on the CONSERVATIVE side of the equation. There are a NUMBER of sites that give a huge edge to Romney.We_ll certainly find out soon enough, thanks EIlaVoters in the storm-ravaged state of New York may get a little extra time to head to the polls. The Board of Elections says that if less than 25 percent of registered voters turn out to the polls, they may extend the voting deadline by an extra 24-hours. Organizers will make their final decision on election day. Meanwhile, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is urging power companies to make areas with polling stations a priority when it comes to restoring electricity. This comes on the heels of an announcement in New Jersey which allows residents to email their vote in if they can_t get to a polling station. We_ll have more news shortly, back to you, Laura.

We_ll jump right into the news with the latest on a record-breaking financial settlement.US authorities have finally reached an agreement with UK-based bank HSBC over money laundering charges, and it_s a biggie HSBC will pay the US government 2.9 billion dollars to settle a federal money laundering probe. It_s the highest sum ever paid in a case of this type. According to the US Senate investigation, HSBC knowingly acted as a financial conduit for the Iranian government, as well as a number of Mexican drug cartels. The report also alleged that HSBC had provided American dollars and banking services to banks in Saudia Arabia with ties to terrorist groups. HSBC has issued a public apology, and says it is committed to improving internal standards. The bank claims to have spent 290 million dollars to improve security measures.A new report from the US National Intelligence Council has given us a potential glimpse into the future. The report, published every four years, projects that the majority of global power will shift to Asia by 2030. According to the NIC, Asia will be more powerful than the US and Europe combined.The report, titled Global Trends 2030, used indicators such as population size, GDP, and military spending to calculate overall power. It goes on to also predict that China will surpass the US as the world_s largest economy well before 2030. Now to the latest in the ongoing Hostess bankruptcy proceedings. For the first time, the company has admitted to diverting money from employee pensions and instead putting the funds towards operating costs. Hostess says the diversions started in August of 2011, but doesn_t know exactly how much money was taken because it was under different management at the time.Hostess has been liquidating assets since its 18-thousand workers went on strike in November. But if there_s a silver lining here, it_s that Twinkies aren_t necessarily going extinct. Up to 110 buyers are reportedly interested in purchasing the brand from Hostess. I think more than anything, this Hostess saga has reminded everyone that Twinkies still exist I haven_t had one in ages.That makes two of us, Vic. It_s the day that millions of Americans have been waiting for, as voters head to the polls to select their next President. It_s been a tight race that_s gone right down to the wire. For more on what_s sure to be an exciting election day, we_ll turn to Eila Adams.That_s right Vic, tens of millions of US citizens are heading to the polls to make their voices heard. Mitt Romney and Barack Obama have spent many months on the campaign trail trying to sway voters. It_s been a long, tough, and expensive race. The candidates_ combined campaign costs have topped the two billion dollar mark. But now, the ultimate decision rests with the people. Early polls show that Obama and Romney are still neck and neck, Vic, although the President appears to have a slight lead in some important swing states. Officials expect to have some concrete election results by midnight. Traditionally on Election Day, both candidates spend the final hours in their home states. But Mitt Romney did away with tradition on Tuesday, making one last dash for votes in two crucial swing states. Romney made quick stops in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, and Cleveland Ohio. He took time to thank volunteers, and also looked to drum up a last minute surge of support. And it just may have worked Obama still has a slight lead in Ohio, Vic, but some experts say Romney is coming on in Pennsylvania. So after his last ditch campaign stops, where will Mr. Romney be spending election night?Romney will be watching the final numbers come in from a rally in Boston. Obama, meanwhile, will be doing the same at a convention centre in Chicago.Should be a very long and very exciting night. Thank you Eila.As the numbers pour in on election night, many viewers - especially those of you outside of the US - may wonder how it all works. You see, the US president is not decided by a simple popular vote. Instead, a process called the electoral college is applied. Each state is given a certain number of electoral votes, determined by the size of its Congressional delegation. California, for example, has 55 electoral votes, while Montana has only 3. There are 538 votes in total, so the winning number for either candidate is 270. In essence, Mr. Romney could actually garner more of the popular vote nationwide than Barack Obama, but still lose the election, and vice versa.With that, it_s time we took a quick break from the headlines. We_ll jump right into the news with the latest on a record-breaking financial settlement.US authorities have finally reached an agreement with UK-based bank HSBC over money laundering charges, and it_s a biggie HSBC will pay the US government 2.9 billion dollars to settle a federal money laundering probe. It_s the highest sum ever paid in a case of this type. According to the US Senate investigation, HSBC knowingly acted as a financial conduit for the Iranian government, as well as a number of Mexican drug cartels. The report also alleged that HSBC had provided American dollars and banking services to banks in Saudia Arabia with ties to terrorist groups. HSBC has issued a public apology, and says it is committed to improving internal standards. The bank claims to have spent 290 million dollars to improve security measures.A new report from the US National Intelligence Council has given us a potential glimpse into the future. The report, published every four years, projects that the majority of global power will shift to Asia by 2030. According to the NIC, Asia will be more powerful than the US and Europe combined.The report, titled Global Trends 2030, used indicators such as population size, GDP, and military spending to calculate overall power. It goes on to also predict that China will surpass the US as the world_s largest economy well before 2030. Now to the latest in the ongoing Hostess bankruptcy proceedings. For the first time, the company has admitted to diverting money from employee pensions and instead putting the funds towards operating costs. Hostess says the diversions started in August of 2011, but doesn_t know exactly how much money was taken because it was under different management at the time.Hostess has been liquidating assets since its 18-thousand workers went on strike in November. But if there_s a silver lining here, it_s that Twinkies aren_t necessarily going extinct. Up to 110 buyers are reportedly interested in purchasing the brand from Hostess. It_s the day that millions of Americans have been waiting for, as voters head to the polls to select their next President. It_s been a tight race that_s gone right down to the wire. For more on what_s sure to be an exciting election day, we_ll turn to Eila Adams.That_s right Vic, tens of millions of US citizens are heading to the polls to make their voices heard. Mitt Romney and Barack Obama have spent many months on the campaign trail trying to sway voters. It_s been a long, tough, and expensive race. The candidates_ combined campaign costs have topped the two billion dollar mark. But now, the ultimate decision rests with the people. Early polls show that Obama and Romney are still neck and neck, Vic, although the President appears to have a slight lead in some important swing states. Officials expect to have some concrete election results by midnight. Traditionally on Election Day, both candidates spend the final hours in their home states. But Mitt Romney did away with tradition on Tuesday, making one last dash for votes in two crucial swing states. Romney made quick stops in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, and Cleveland Ohio. He took time to thank volunteers, and also looked to drum up a last minute surge of support. And it just may have worked Obama still has a slight lead in Ohio, Vic, but some experts say Romney is coming on in Pennsylvania. So after his last ditch campaign stops, where will Mr. Romney be spending election night?Romney will be watching the final numbers come in from a rally in Boston. Obama, meanwhile, will be doing the same at a convention centre in Chicago.Should be a very long and very exciting night. Thank you Eila.As the numbers pour in on election night, many viewers - especially those of you outside of the US - may wonder how it all works. You see, the US president is not decided by a simple popular vote. Instead, a process called the electoral college is applied. Each state is given a certain number of electoral votes, determined by the size of its Congressional delegation. California, for example, has 55 electoral votes, while Montana has only 3. There are 538 votes in total, so the winning number for either candidate is 270. In essence, Mr. Romney could actually garner more of the popular vote nationwide than Barack Obama, but still lose the election, and vice versa.With that, it_s time we took a quick break from the headlines.
