The deal, worth 1 point 8 BILLION dollars, will see the Asian island get two warships, several amphibious assault vehicles, and much more. China opposes the sale as it does not recognize Taiwan as its own independent country. Officials are demanding that the US to cancel the sale to avoid any further damage to Chinese-American relations. A Canadian pastor has been sentenced to life in prison in North Korea. Reverend Hyeon Soo Lim was taken into custody in February, after crossing into the country from China on a humanitarian mission. According to the numerous charges, the reverend admitted to anti-government activities, propaganda and aiding defectors. Lim_s supporters contend that the confessions were likely coerced. Canadian officials have condemned the sentence, and are demanding his immediate release. And catching a flight to Cuba just got a little closer to reality for Americans One year after President Obama announced a reconciliation with Cuba, government officials from both countries are reportedly VERY close to an agreement on restoring commercial flights. Currently, the only option for US travelers is to fly charter, which is expensive and difficult to book. Several major airlines have already expressed interest in the route. Kat, if everything goes to plan, US Citizens COULD be jetting down to Cuba on vacation as early as the next few months.Sounds like good news for everyone, thanks very much Peyton. The Obama administration has introduced new regulations that will effectively shut down the trade of ivory in the U.S. Ivory sales will now be restricted to musical instruments that use less than half a pound of ivory, as well as genuine antiques. Under old regulations, ivory could be traded so long as it legally entered the U.S. before 1978, the year African elephants officially became endangered. Experts say the ivory trade accounts for the deaths of 96 elephants a day Obesity rates for women in the US are on the rise. Articles published in the Journal of the American Medical Association have put the obesity rate for American women at 40 percent This is ahead of the 35 percent for American men, a big gap considering that the rates had been roughly the same over the last decade. The gender gap in obesity rates has been observed worldwide, though at far lower rates than in the U.S. Globally, 15 percent of women are obese, compared to 11 percent of men. But in many ways, ballot measures, where citizens get to vote directly on laws, have just as big an effectAbsolutely And I know this time around, there were a lot of big questions on the ballots of several states, particularly CaliforniaThat_s right and they_re set to have a big impact on the All-American trio of Sex, Drugs, and Guns Here are the stories. The adult film industry is used to exhaling deeply, but this time, it_s about a California ballot proposition. Voters in the state rejected a measure that would have required porn actors to wear condoms in their sex scenes Backers of Proposition 60 had suggested it was needed for health and safety purposes, but opponents countered that all it would do was move the industry to a different state. The final tally saw voters reject the proposition by approximately 54 to 46 percent Millions of people scared about a Trump presidency will have a way to take the edge off California, Massachusetts, and Nevada have all passed measures to legalize recreational marijuana use, and it looks like Maine will be coming along for the ride too In fact, of the five states voting on legalization, fusty old Arizona was the only one to say No With the passage of California_s Proposition 64, a fifth of all Americans will live in a state with recreational pot use, including the entire U.S. Pacific Coast Surf_s up Three states also voted to add some gun control California_s Proposition 63 passed, which means ammunition magazines holding more than ten bullets will be outlawed, people will require background checks to purchase bullets, and there_ll be a process to take guns away from people convicted of felonies Elsewhere, Nevada will get universal background checks for private gun sales and Washington state passed a measure that will allow courts to keep high-risk individuals from buying guns The only state to reject gun control was Maine, where the measure was defeated 51 percent to 49 Don_t go away.

The deal, worth 1 point 8 BILLION dollars, will see the Asian island get two warships, several amphibious assault vehicles, and much more. China opposes the sale as it does not recognize Taiwan as its own independent country. Officials are demanding that the US to cancel the sale to avoid any further damage to Chinese-American relations. A Canadian pastor has been sentenced to life in prison in North Korea. Reverend Hyeon Soo Lim was taken into custody in February, after crossing into the country from China on a humanitarian mission. According to the numerous charges, the reverend admitted to anti-government activities, propaganda and aiding defectors. Lim_s supporters contend that the confessions were likely coerced. Canadian officials have condemned the sentence, and are demanding his immediate release. And catching a flight to Cuba just got a little closer to reality for Americans One year after President Obama announced a reconciliation with Cuba, government officials from both countries are reportedly VERY close to an agreement on restoring commercial flights. Currently, the only option for US travelers is to fly charter, which is expensive and difficult to book. Several major airlines have already expressed interest in the route. The Obama administration has introduced new regulations that will effectively shut down the trade of ivory in the U.S. Ivory sales will now be restricted to musical instruments that use less than half a pound of ivory, as well as genuine antiques. Under old regulations, ivory could be traded so long as it legally entered the U.S. before 1978, the year African elephants officially became endangered. Experts say the ivory trade accounts for the deaths of 96 elephants a day Obesity rates for women in the US are on the rise. Articles published in the Journal of the American Medical Association have put the obesity rate for American women at 40 percent This is ahead of the 35 percent for American men, a big gap considering that the rates had been roughly the same over the last decade. The gender gap in obesity rates has been observed worldwide, though at far lower rates than in the U.S. Globally, 15 percent of women are obese, compared to 11 percent of men.
