Experts say he had obtained enough ingredients to construct a bomb similar to the ones used in the 2005 attacks on the London subway system. It starts in the South Pacific where the Philippines has signed an historic peace plan with its largest rebel group the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. The deal will put an end to 40 years of fighting that has claimed an estimated 120 thousand lives. Senior anchor Victoria Sinclair has the story. Thanks Kat. Under the terms of the agreement an autonomous Muslim region called Bangsamoro will be set up in the south of the mostly Catholic country. Further challenges lie ahead mind you. The peace plan is considered a framework meaning both parties have until the end of the year to hammer out the specific details. A senior arbitrator summed up the historic moment saying quote The time has come for us to choose the moral high ground. After four decades peace is within reach.Although the U.S. has long been credited for placing tough economic restrictions on Iran the E.U. is now stepping up to the plate. Foreign Ministers from several European nations are descending on Luxembourg to announce a fresh round of sanctions against the Middle Eastern state. With more here_s Laura Connor. Victoria diplomats say the sanctions will place even heavier constraints on trade banks oil and natural gas imports with exceptions only being made in the case of medicine and other humanitarian aid. Previous rounds of international sanctions have already caused Iran_s currency - the rial- to lose 80 percent of its value since the beginning of this year. Because of this analysts believe Iran will be under insurmountable pressure to scrap its controversial nuclear program. And in Afghanistan authorities destroyed a massive haul of illegal narcotics. 24 tons of heroin hashish opium and alcohol were set ablaze outside of Kabul. And although this represents one of the country_s largest amounts of contraband even more impressive is the amount of accompanying arrests. A staggering 907 suspects have been detained in connection with the seizure. Afghanistan has long been one of the world_s largest drug producers Vic accounting for over 90 percent of all Opium production. Vic after a decade of unprecedented economic growth Chinese President Hu Jintao (WHO jin-TOW) handed the torch to Xi Jinping (SHE JIN PING) as the new head of the Chinese Communist Party. Following a ceremony in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing Mr. Xi and the six other members of China_s Standing Committee pledged to make China even stronger than it is today. That_s right Vic just days before a historic visit from US President Barack Obama Myanmar_s (me-AHN-mar) government has released 452 prisoners under amnesty as a gesture of good will. The move is a sign of the many democratic reforms taking effect over there since the country_s current administration took office in 2010. Many of those being released were political prisoners or foreign nationals. Myanmar_s adoption of democratic policies has led to the loosening of sanctions from the international community. During his visit President Obama will meet with Myanmar President Thein Sein and activist icon Aung San Suu Kyi. Back to you Vic. Thanks Peyton. Kat the various factions that have fled Syria met in Qatar and voted on a new leader. His name is Moaz al-Khatib and he_s a Sunni cleric who initially fled the war-torn country several months ago after being detained by the government on numerous occasions. The opposition has been under a lot of international pressure to unite particularly from the US. Al-Khatib says now that the factions have come together as a united front it_s time for the international community to make good on its offers of aid. Opposition forces aren_t the only thing occupying the Syrian government_s attention these days. Israel has fired warning shots into the country following a pair of Syrian mortar attacks. The mortars landed in the Golan Heights region n a Syrian territory that_s occupied by Israel. No damage or injuries were reported by Israel in the attacks. However on Monday Israel confirmed a direct hit on Syrian artillery units. Israeli defense minister Ehud Barak warned that any additional strikes will result in a tougher response. Kat this marks the first time Israel has fired on Syrian forces since 1973. During his first day of defense Karadzic denied the charges and claimed to be a tolerant man who had only wanted peace.He also said he did everything he could to reduce pain and human suffering during the war. He_s accused the media of exaggerating the number of casualties during the conflict. Authorities finally caught up with Karadzic in 2008 where he had been hiding in plain sight for the last 13 years. If convicted of the charges he could face life behind bars. More now from the fallout of last month_s terrorist attack on the American embassy in Libya. The assault killed a US ambassador and has become a hot topic in the US Presidential election. Republican candidate Mitt Romney has been quick to criticize Barack Obama_s foreign policies. Clinton went on to say that she didn_t want to get into any blame game and that the focus should now shift to tracking down the terrorists and bringing them to justice. Parliament there has voted unanimously to dissolve itself and hold an early general election next January. After spending thirty years behind bars DNA evidence has prompted the release of two men in North Carolina. An argument broke out between a woman looking to recline her seat and another woman seated behind her who was trying to sleep on her tray table. One of the ladies became loud and abusive and the pilot landed the plane at the nearest possible airport out of what the airline calls an abundance of caution. Only one of the passengers was removed by law enforcement.

Because of this analysts believe Iran will be under insurmountable pressure to scrap its controversial nuclear program. Many of those being released were political prisoners or foreign nationals. Myanmar_s adoption of democratic policies has led to the loosening of sanctions from the international community. However on Monday Israel confirmed a direct hit on Syrian artillery units. Israeli defense minister Ehud Barak warned that any additional strikes will result in a tougher response.
