Here she is with a NN Bulletin. A lethal type of bacteria that lives in soil and water has been released from the Tulane National Primate Research Center in Louisiana. Thing is after weeks of investigating authorities still aren_t sure HOW the deadly strain was released from the high-security lab. Officials stress there is no risk to the public. Researchers at the lab - located 35 miles north of New Orleans - had been working on a vaccine to combat the bacteria. California border authorities made one of the biggest marijuana busts in US history last week. A truck claiming to be carrying pillows and mattresses was found stashed with 15 tons of pot. Customs and Border Police at the checkpoint ordered the truck into a cargo bay for X-rays and then found the haul. The truck was packed from floor to ceiling with the illicit cargo which carried an estimated street value close to 20 million dollars. And a sketch broadcast on this weekend_s edition of Saturday Night Live has sparked MAJOR controversy online. It featured host Dakota Johnson playing a young woman being dropped off at the airport by her father played by Taran Killam. Have a look.Perhaps not too surprisingly a sketch about a father dropping his daughter off to join ISIS militants didn_t go over too well with the general public. Angie Heyward is starting us off with the headlines and joins us now with the latest including a MAJOR chocolate recall. It_s not very often you hear about a problem with CHOCOLATE Angie. No it_s not and what makes this story even MORE surprising is that it affects some of the world_s most popular brands. Here_s what_s going on Heads up chocolate lovers: American confectionery giant Mars is recalling products in at least 55 countries including its famous Mars and Snickers bars. This after a German customer found a bit of plastic in his Snickers bar last month. The defect has been traced back to a factory in the Netherlands which distributed candies around the globe. A Mars spokesman says the risk of other chocolates being contaminated is low but the company doesn_t want to take any chances. American customers don_t have to worry since the recall doesn_t impact any products stateside. The CDC has traced a multi-state outbreak of salmonella to alfalfa sprouts. There have been 13 cases reported since the start of December across Kansas Missouri Oklahoma and Pennsylvania. 5 of the sick people have been hospitalized. Health officials believe the contamination came from sprouts grown by Kansas-based Sweetwater Farms. 12 of the 13 patients reported eating at restaurants and at least five of the eateries were supplied by Sweetwater. And in other news NASA has revealed that a giant flaming space rock exploded over the Atlantic Ocean on February 6th NASA says the fireball blew up in the air 620 miles from the coast of Brazil. The blast was measured at 13-thousand tons of TNT - which is roughly the same amount of force generated by the atomic bomb that leveled Hiroshima in 1945. Experts say the rock was about 20 feet in diameter. It_s the first incident of its kind since 2013 when a meteor slammed into the Russian city of Chelyabinsk (chill-YA-binsk) and injured 16-hundred people. It all sounds pretty scary but scientists say the event in Brazil was tiny compared to the one in Russia.Thank goodness it happened over the ocean and not a busy populated area. The 39-year old will serve the prison term as part of an agreement to settle NINE rpg charges against him in various states. The plea deal allows the ex-NFL star to avoid a much more severe punishment including a possible life sentence. Meanwhile a judge in Arizona has formally dismissed a murder case that saw a mother spend 22 years on death row. Debra Milke was convicted in 1990 for hiring two men to kill her young son. But after a fifteen year legal battle the court threw out the decision because prosecutors failed to disclose the shady history of a detective working the case. The now-retired detective had a long history of lying under oath and violating suspects_ rights during police interrogations. After the ruling Milke_s attorney said he was happy the ordeal was finally over and that justice had been done. And Utah Governor Gary Herbert has drawn national attention after signing a bill Monday that makes death by firing squad a legal form of execution. The old-West style method can now be used there in the event that no lethal injection drugs are available. There has been a nationwide shortage of the drugs leaving states to ponder other avenues of executing death row inmates. The drugs have also come under scrutiny for causing bungled executions. Supporters of the Utah bill say a team of trained marksmen could do the job much faster than a lethal dose of poison. Critics call the law barbaric. I_m Peyton Priestly don_t go away. GPS manufacturer TomTom has released its list of the world_s most congested cities. Istanbul gets the dubious honor of having the world_s WORST traffic. Turkey_s largest city is a gateway between Europe and Asia and has the heaviest traffic during peak hours on the planet. A 30-minute drive there will take you more than an hour during the evening rush Mexico City and Rio de Janeiro rounded up the top three spots. And over in North America Los Angeles keeps its crown as the least driver-friendly city - but ranks just 10th worldwide. A thousand-year old Anglo-Saxon concoction once used to treat eye infections could hold the key to a cure for the MRSA superbug Microbiologists went to work on a remedy translated from a 10th century medical textbook found at the British Library in London. The recipe uses basic ingredients like garlic wine and bile from a cow_s stomach. Amazingly when the medieval brew was tested on the antibiotic-resistant MRSA strain it killed 999 out of 1000 bacterial cells The team was dumbfounded by the surprising results saying the treatment is effective beyond their wildest dreams. And in Siberia oil workers drilling in the frozen tundra there have made an incredible discovery: the remains of a 10000 year old woolly mammoth The workers dug up two tusks teeth and rib bones of the giant mammal which was buried about ten feet deep. Palaeontologists estimate the mammoth was a 30 to 40-year old female. There_s so much snow now in Beantown Carli that they don_t know what to do with it That_s right Peyton Boston has been hit with its THIRD major storm in two weeks. We_re talking a total accumulation now of about EIGHTY inches in the last 30 days. Here_s the latest.Two more feet of snow has just fallen on Boston smashing snowfall records. It_s really insane what_s going on there. Schools are closed once again and public transportation has been suspended and will remain closed until at least Wednesday. The storms have been relentless in the Boston area it_s snowed 13 of the past 17 days and believe it or not even MORE snow is expected later this week. In other news ten women and two men will serve as the jury in the trial of the man charged with killing American Sniper Chris Kyle. Attorneys for former Marine Eddie Ray Routh will argue he is not guilty by reason of insanity due to post-traumatic stress disorder from his time in Iraq. More than 800 summons were sent out for the trial-more than four times the usual amount. Opening statements begin in Texas on Wednesday. And a wild rush-hour police pursuit of an armed man in Los Angeles ended with the suspect being shot and taken into custody all on live TV. Police were led at high speeds through downtown streets and highways while the suspect crashed into several cars and high-jacked another vehicle. Local TV news stations in LA broadcast the pursuit live from cameras mounted on helicopters. The suspect_s identity and condition have not released. We_ll be right back. They topped earnings estimates AGAIN and the stock in heading higher. If I would have only brought that thing when I was told to YEARS ago I_d be rich now You and me both There_s no escaping Apple_s all-conquering gadgets Here_s the story. Apple recorded a record second quarter ending March 28. They posted a mind boggling 58 billion in revenue and made 13.6 billion in profit. This is for THREE MONTHS PEOPLE Apple also now has a ridiculous 193.5 billion dollars of cash on hand. That_s more then goggle and Microsoft COMBINED Leading the charge was of course the Apple iPhone. They sold an astounding 61 million of them mostly in China. The only downside for the tech giant is the declining sales of the iPad although they still managed to sell more than 12 million in three months. Apple watch sales will be figured into their CURRENT quarter. Google is also trying to increase its stranglehold on the world of technology. The search giant wants to buy your innovative patents. Between May 8 and May 22 Google will allow patent holders to describe their patents and name a price theyd be willing to sell them for. Then over the summer Google will review the submissions and buy some of the patents. This is Googles attempt to clean up the chaos of the American patent system.
