He succumbed to a massive heart attack while undergoing an outpatient procedure in Santa Monica, Calofornia. Clark had been suffering from health problems for many years. He had type-2 diabetes and in 2004 suffered a debilitating stroke. Among his legendary achievements, Clark hosted American Bandstand, for decades - America_s longest-running variety show. He was also the man behind countless other popular programs, including the Pyramid game shows, the American Music Awards and Dick Clarks New years Rockin Eve. He was 82 years old, and will be dearly missed.On to the international front, India has put on a display of its growing military might with the successful launch of a long range missile. The Agni V (AG-nee 5) rocket is nuclear capable and can travel a distance of over three-thousand miles. That would place many Chinese cities within its striking range. India_s Defense Minister congratulated military officials on the launch, which they say met all objectives. India has stressed that the weapon is purely for deterrence, and that it will be exercising a no first-use policy. Rock `n roller Ted Nugent has drawn the ire of the US Secret Service. This follows controversial remarks he made about President Barack Obama at a National Rifle Association convention this past weekend in St. Louis. Nugent, an outspoken Republican supporter and gun enthusiast, isn_t thrilled with the prospect of Obama winning re-election. Here_s a brief excerpt. The Secret Service will be interviewing Nugent on Thursday in Oklahoma. Officials say the service supports a citizen_s right to free speech, but wants to determine the intent of Nugent_s statement. Meanwhile GOP candidate Mitt Romney_s campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul (SAWL) distanced the frontrunner from Nugent_s remarks, Eila. She called them divisive and offensive. In the meantime, France_s president Nicolas Sarkozy (nee-koh-LAH sahr-koh-ZEE) being voted out of office is today_s top story. It_s the end of the Nicolas Sarkozy era in France. He was defeated by socialist challenger Francois Hollande (frahn-SWAH oh-LAWND) in a run-off election on Sunday. It was far from a runaway result though - Hollande won the election with just an estimated 51-point-6 percent of the vote. Hollande celebrated his win, calling it a new start for Europe. Meanwhile, Sarkozy conceded defeat and accepted the full responsibility for his loss. Voters showed up in droves - with a voter turnout of an estimated 80 percent. Hollande will become France_s first left-wing president since 1995.And it wasn_t just France holding elections this weekend - voters went to the polls in Greece as well. But the end result was FAR from definitive. Erica Stevens has been tracking the developments there and she_s standing by with the results. Nice to have you back Erica. ES) Thank you very much Eila. Being in the newsroom here feels like I never left Anyway, all the major Greek parties suffered setbacks at the polls, and no single party came close to a majority. The right-leaning New Democracy Party - part of the present ruling coalition - fared the best with 19-percent support and 109 seats. But that_s just half of the support they received in 2009. The wide-ranging results appear to be a backlash against the strict austerity measures that have been put into place. There are two options now. Either a new coalition has to be formed, or they_ll have to set a date for a new election. Politicians have until May seventeenth to figure something out.ES) And guess who_s back in Russia? After serving four years in the lesser role of Prime Minister, Vladimir Putin has once again been inaugurated as President. The controversial leader was sworn in on Monday, and needless to say, not everyone was elated. Police in Moscow arrested roughly 120 protesters, many of whom accused Putin of stealing the election through widescale voter fraud. Russia_s newly-amended constitution gives the former KGB agent a guaranteed six-year term, and if re-elected Eila, he could remain as president until the year 2024. Low humidity and high temperatures are fueling fires across a number of states including Idaho, Utah, Oregon and Montana. The largest of which is burning in Idaho_s Salmon Challis national forrest where over 11-hundred firefighters are working around the clock to try and contain 2 seperate blazes. WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange made his first public statement since being granted asylum in an Ecuadorian embassy in London. In his remarks, he had a firm message for the US.I ask President Obama to do the right thing n The United States must renounce it_s witch-hunt against WikiLeaks.He also called for an end to what he calls a war on whistleblowers and for the release of Bradley Manning, who_s accused of providing WikiLeaks with hundreds of thousands of documents.And Hollywood is reeling from the news that director Tony Scott committed suicide. Scott jumped from the Vincent Thomas Bridge in Los Angeles Harbor. Police have confirmed that they have recovered a suicide note from Scott_s office. Scott_s family, including his Oscar-winning brother Ridley Scott n has asked for privacy. He was there to sign a new agreement between the two countries as well as make an important speach to the american pubic from Bagram (BAG-rum) Air Base. Eila Adams has this breaking story as well as other news making headlines today.EA) Rachelle, President Obama pulled a fast one, and showed up unannounced in Afghanistan. Just about everyone was stunned, including the military and the media. It was all part of his master plan though because he was there to announced a new agreement between the two countries.He committed to pulling 23-thousand troops out of the country by the end of this summer. He also claims that he would stick to the deadline of turning security completely over to the Afghan government by 2014. Obama insisted the US would not be building permanent bases or patrolling the country. This is his third visit to Afghanistan since taking office, and it coincides with the 1-year anniversary of the death of Osama bin Laden.A Bosnian immigrant has been convicted of plotting to bomb the New York subway system. Adis Medunjanin (ah-DEES meh-doo-jah-NEEN) was recruited by al Qaeda to perform the suicide mission with two co-conspirators. Unfortunately for him, the 2 other men testified against him, revealing just how close they were to pulling the plot off. They apparently targeted the subway because it represented the heart of everything in New York City. It took less than 2 days for a jury to find him guilty of numerous terror charges, including conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction. Medunjanin faces life in prison when he_s sentenced on September 7th. In another bombing plot - this one home-grown - 5 men were arrested for planning to blow up a Cleveland-area bridge. The FBI caught the men - some of whom are self-described anarchists - in a sting operation. They say that nobody was ever in any danger, since the C4 the plotters bought was inert and controlled by an undercover agent. The group also allegedly conspired to topple financial institution signs on top of high rise buildings. Rachelle the suspects are being charged with conspiracy and attempted use of explosives, back to you.RW= NN Wall, RW) Was there any sort of MOTIVE mentioned Eila? Crews have spent days fighting blazes in Arizona, California, Colorado, Michigan, Nevada, and New Mexico. Rachelle Wilde joins us now with the latest.RW) Peyton, a combination of lightning and dry weather has lead to the destruction of over 200 square miles of rugged terrain. Although the fires are predominantly found in sparsely populated areas, several towns have been evacuated over safety concerns. To make matters worse, relentless winds of up to 50 miles per hour have caused the flames to spread quickly. Although hundreds of firefighters have already been dispatched, it may take several more days before the fires are contained. RW) And one of the world_s most wanted Nazi war criminals has died in Germany. Reports have confirmed that Klaas Carel Faber CLASS CARE-ul FAH-bur died of natural causes at the age of 90. Although born in the Netherlands, Faber volunteered for Hitler_s infamous SS unit in his early 20s. After the Second World War, he was sentenced to life in prison for a number of high-profile war crimes. He subsequently escaped to Germany Peyton, where he was able to live out his days despite a number of extradition attempts. PP) Any word on why it was so difficult to extradite him? He succumbed to a massive heart attack while undergoing an outpatient procedure in Santa Monica, Calofornia. Clark had been suffering from health problems for many years. He had type-2 diabetes and in 2004 suffered a debilitating stroke. Among his legendary achievements, Clark hosted American Bandstand, for decades - America_s longest-running variety show. He was also the man behind countless other popular programs, including the Pyramid game shows, the American Music Awards and Dick Clarks New years Rockin Eve. He was 82 years old, and will be dearly missed.On to the international front, India has put on a display of its growing military might with the successful launch of a long range missile. The Agni V (AG-nee 5) rocket is nuclear capable and can travel a distance of over three-thousand miles. That would place many Chinese cities within its striking range. India_s Defense Minister congratulated military officials on the launch, which they say met all objectives. India has stressed that the weapon is purely for deterrence, and that it will be exercising a no first-use policy. Rock `n roller Ted Nugent has drawn the ire of the US Secret Service. This follows controversial remarks he made about President Barack Obama at a National Rifle Association convention this past weekend in St. Louis. Nugent, an outspoken Republican supporter and gun enthusiast, isn_t thrilled with the prospect of Obama winning re-election. Here_s a brief excerpt. The Secret Service will be interviewing Nugent on Thursday in Oklahoma. Officials say the service supports a citizen_s right to free speech, but wants to determine the intent of Nugent_s statement. Meanwhile GOP candidate Mitt Romney_s campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul (SAWL) distanced the frontrunner from Nugent_s remarks, Eila. She called them divisive and offensive. In the meantime, France_s president Nicolas Sarkozy (nee-koh-LAH sahr-koh-ZEE) being voted out of office is today_s top story. It_s the end of the Nicolas Sarkozy era in France. He was defeated by socialist challenger Francois Hollande (frahn-SWAH oh-LAWND) in a run-off election on Sunday. It was far from a runaway result though - Hollande won the election with just an estimated 51-point-6 percent of the vote. Hollande celebrated his win, calling it a new start for Europe. Meanwhile, Sarkozy conceded defeat and accepted the full responsibility for his loss. Voters showed up in droves - with a voter turnout of an estimated 80 percent. Hollande will become France_s first left-wing president since 1995.And it wasn_t just France holding elections this weekend - voters went to the polls in Greece as well. But the end result was FAR from definitive. Erica Stevens has been tracking the developments there and she_s standing by with the results. Nice to have you back Erica. ES) Thank you very much Eila. Being in the newsroom here feels like I never left Anyway, all the major Greek parties suffered setbacks at the polls, and no single party came close to a majority. The right-leaning New Democracy Party - part of the present ruling coalition - fared the best with 19-percent support and 109 seats. But that_s just half of the support they received in 2009. The wide-ranging results appear to be a backlash against the strict austerity measures that have been put into place. There are two options now. Either a new coalition has to be formed, or they_ll have to set a date for a new election. Politicians have until May seventeenth to figure something out.ES) And guess who_s back in Russia? After serving four years in the lesser role of Prime Minister, Vladimir Putin has once again been inaugurated as President. The controversial leader was sworn in on Monday, and needless to say, not everyone was elated. Police in Moscow arrested roughly 120 protesters, many of whom accused Putin of stealing the election through widescale voter fraud. Russia_s newly-amended constitution gives the former KGB agent a guaranteed six-year term, and if re-elected Eila, he could remain as president until the year 2024. Scott jumped from the Vincent Thomas Bridge in Los Angeles Harbor. Police have confirmed that they have recovered a suicide note from Scott_s office. Just about everyone was stunned, including the military and the media. It was all part of his master plan though because he was there to announced a new agreement between the two countries.He committed to pulling 23-thousand troops out of the country by the end of this summer. He also claims that he would stick to the deadline of turning security completely over to the Afghan government by 2014. Obama insisted the US would not be building permanent bases or patrolling the country. This is his third visit to Afghanistan since taking office, and it coincides with the 1-year anniversary of the death of Osama bin Laden.A Bosnian immigrant has been convicted of plotting to bomb the New York subway system. Adis Medunjanin (ah-DEES meh-doo-jah-NEEN) was recruited by al Qaeda to perform the suicide mission with two co-conspirators. Unfortunately for him, the 2 other men testified against him, revealing just how close they were to pulling the plot off. They apparently targeted the subway because it represented the heart of everything in New York City. It took less than 2 days for a jury to find him guilty of numerous terror charges, including conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction. Medunjanin faces life in prison when he_s sentenced on September 7th. In another bombing plot - this one home-grown - 5 men were arrested for planning to blow up a Cleveland-area bridge. The FBI caught the men - some of whom are self-described anarchists - in a sting operation. They say that nobody was ever in any danger, since the C4 the plotters bought was inert and controlled by an undercover agent. The group also allegedly conspired to topple financial institution signs on top of high rise buildings. Although the fires are predominantly found in sparsely populated areas, several towns have been evacuated over safety concerns. Although hundreds of firefighters have already been dispatched, it may take several more days before the fires are contained. RW) And one of the world_s most wanted Nazi war criminals has died in Germany. Reports have confirmed that Klaas Carel Faber CLASS CARE-ul FAH-bur died of natural causes at the age of 90. Although born in the Netherlands, Faber volunteered for Hitler_s infamous SS unit in his early 20s. After the Second World War, he was sentenced to life in prison for a number of high-profile war crimes.
