This is your News Off The TopEcuadorian president Rafael Correa says the British government would be quote suicidal to enter Ecuador_s embassy in London to arrest Julian Assange. According to Correa, doing so would set a nasty precedent for other nations to violate British embassies around the globe. Correa has been frustrated by the UK_s treatment of Ecuador during the ordeal, calling the British foreign office_s behaviour unacceptable and intolerable. Julian Assange has been holed up in Ecuador_s embassy for two months now. Assange claims that if he_s extradited to Sweden, he will then be sent to the US, where he could face the death penalty for his role in WikiLeaks. In other news, US President Barack Obama has drawn a line in the sand when it comes to the conflict in Syria. While the President has yet to order military engagement, he says the use of chemical weapons could prompt a swift response from American forces.Syria currently holds the fourth largest stockpile of chemical weapons on the planet. A Syrian spokesman said the weapons would never be used on Syrian soil, but those statements have done little to assuage international fears. Meanwhile, the American government has struck a major blow against Lebanese militant group Hezbollah. The feds have seized 150 million dollars from a money laundering scheme run by the terrorist organization. The money was being passed through the now-defunct Lebanese Canadian Bank.The DEA says that between 2007 and 2011, Hezbollah wired at least 329 million dollars through the bank as well as other financial institutions. Money generated from drug sales was transferred to the US, where it was used to buy second-hand automobiles. The cars were then shipped to and sold in West Africa, with the profits being wired back to Lebanon. And now you knowThis is just one in a SERIES of recent incidents involving major banks handling money for less than reputable clients. That_s right. The UK_s Standard Chartered Bank got caught hiding funds it made from doing business with Iran, and HSBC_s being investigated for handling funds from Mexican drug cartels. The real question here ladies is, can Justin Timberlake bring sexy back to the world of social networking? Well, with MySpace, he_s sure as heck trying. As you said, the site_s just debuted a HUGE re-design and at first glance, the new interface looks sleek. They_re taking a minimalist approach, which looks nice considering how cluttered and garish user pages USED to look. They also seem to be embracing the tiled look that Windows is favoring these days. A group led by Timberlake recently bought the social network for 35 million dollars n far less than the 580 million that NewsCorp bought it for in 2005.In other news, long after being cancelled, failed Fox quiz show Million Dollar Money Drop is still causing controversy. A couple is suing producers Endemol, saying that they gave a correct answer that was ruled wrong Andrew and Patricia Murray lost 580-thousand dollars when they gambled that the worldis most common computer password was password. Producers claimed the CORRECT answer was 123456, which they seemingly based on just one isolated report. The couple is suing to get that money back plus damages. The show was dogged with similar charges when a couple lost on another incorrect question in their debut episode.A company called Modern Meadow claims to be in the process of creating leather that even vegetarians can wear, without guilt They claim that within 5 years, they_ll be able to synthetically produce actual leather grown in a lab, with no harm coming to animals It_s all part of a process of artificially nurturing cow cells in a lab, the same process that would create artificial meat, which we told you about recently. Let_s jump right into today_s headlines.Barack Obama came out swinging against Republican nominee Mitt Romney in Tuesday night_s hotly-anticipated US presidential debate. In an about-face from their previous match-up, the President spent much of the ninety minutes on the offensive, challenging his opponent on the economy, foreign policy, and women_s issues. Marina Valmont was taking notes and joins us now with her analysis. Thanks, Kat. Although it certainly wasn_t a trouncing, most analysts believe Obama scored a clear victory over the former Massachusetts Governor. One particularly strong exchange had the president taking Romney to task for implying he used last month_s embassy attack in Libya for political gain. For his part, Governor Romney attempted to hammer away at the President over the economy and America_s reliance on foreign oil. All in all it was a contentious debate with each candidate doing what needed to be done to energize their base. The last of the three presidential debates is set for Monday, October 22nd in Boca Raton, Florida and will focus on foreign policy. Kat? So how would you describe the mood in the Obama camp today? Very pleased Kat. More than anything they were looking to change the narrative of the past couple of weeks and slow down Romney_s momentum. And the President_s team feels he was able to pull this off. The next one should be a wild one, thanks Marina. In health news, U.S. investigators have raided a Massachusetts drug company that_s been linked to a recent outbreak of fungal meningitis. The move comes after 200 people in 15 U.S. states were hit with the illness as a result of contaminated pharmaceutical products. The FDA believes the outbreak stemmed from sterility issues at the New England Compounding Center in Boston. As a safety precaution, the FDA is urging doctors to avoid prescribing any of the company_s products, specifically its line of heart drugs and steroids. Also in the New England area, the state of Maine fell victim to a rather unusual event on Tuesday: an earthquake Yes, we kid you not. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, it registered 4.6 on the Richter scale. Eila Adams has the story. Kat, when you think earthquakes, the northeastern state of Maine doesn_t typically come to mind. But sure enough, the southern area of the state was rattled Tuesday night, with tremors felt as far away as Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York. And although there were no reported injuries, residents reported a loud bang, followed by several seconds of shaking. In fact, many immediately assumed their furnaces had blown up. Needless to say Kat, the 911 emergency system was flooded with calls, back to you. Thanks, Eila. Glad to hear nobody was hurt. And that wraps up our first look at the headlines. President Sarkozy must be SHAKING in his shoes Next up, a pretty amazing discovery by some motivated Scientists. They claim to have found what they believe is the oldest living thing on earth - and NO, it_s NOT Betty White It_s actually ancient seagrass on the floor of the Mediterranean Sea found between Spain and Cyprus. After sequencing the DNA, they claim the seagrass is somewhere between 100,000 to 200-thousand years old. That eclipses the old record that a Tasmanian plant holds of a mere 43-thousand years young. I_m Victoria Sinclair, in the news today, the US government is looking to make amends for the damage it did YEARS ago in Vietnam. That_s coming up in your News off The Top as well as THESE stories. In our top story today, the American government has started a massive cleanup project to remove contamination from its use of Agent Orange during the Vietnam War. During the conflict, US troops dumped millions of gallons of toxic chemicals over dense jungle areas to expose the enemy. Millions of Vietnamese have suffered from health problems, including deformities, in the years since. The US government has now put 41 million dollars towards clean up efforts. The war ended in 1975, and though Vietnamese officials say the gesture is a little late, it is still greatly appreciated. We all know it_s been a brutally hot summer in the US. Scorching temperatures and record drought have crippled many regions. But just HOW brutal wasn_t apparent until now. Eila Adams joins us with some RECORD statistics from the National Climatic Data Center. Eila?Vic the month of July was officially the hottest in recorded history. Even hotter than the infamous Dust Bowl drought of 1936. The average temperature was 77-point-6 degrees - more than 3 degrees above the July average in the 20th century. Not only that, but the last 12 months were the warmest the US has ever seen, or at least since record keeping began back in 1895. Climate scientists blame localized heat and global warming for the searing temperatures, which have triggered a devastating drought. And in a crushing blow to Columbian organized crime, the head of the drug cartel founded by the late Pablo Escobar has been arrested. Columbian officials say that Erikson Vargas Cardona AKA Sebastian will now be extradited to the United States. This is the latest blow to the infamous cartel founded by Escobar, who at one time was said to be the 7th richest man in the world. Columbian President Juan Manuel Santos evoking the spirit of the Olympics - gave the arresting officers symbolic gold medals for their efforts. Although I_m sure they would have appreciated the actual hardware, it was still a nice touch Vic. Thank you Eila. Coming up, we_ve got our Boob of the Week. And by the sounds of it Marina, our recipient sure knows how to take a bad situation and run it into the ground. That_s right, Vic. It starts off as a simple parking ticket for web entrepreneur Julien Chabbott. But a couple of missteps later, things go from bad, to, well, BOOB. This is your News Off The Top.British authorities have charged two ex-News of the World editors - Rupert Murdoch protege Rebekah Brooks and here_s the big one, David Coulson, the former aid to British PM, David Cameron, along with six others. They_ve all been charged for their roles in intercepting the communications of over 600 people.A list of the alleged victims will be released shortly, but it is thought to include big name stars such as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Wayne Rooney, and Sir Paul McCartney. Five other senior tabloid journalists are being charged, as well as a private investigator whose detailed notes have been at the center of the scandal from day one.In other news today, an Afghan police commander and 13 junior officers have defected to join forces with the Taliban. This was in the western province of Farah, one of the most violent areas of the region. The men took valuable equipment and heavy weaponry - including rocket-propelled grenades, machine guns, and a number of US-made armoured Humvees - with them. Intelligence officials say the police commander poisoned seven policemen who refused to defect. Over the past few years, Afghan forces had driven Taliban insurgents out of the area. But local sources say the terrorist group is regaining its foothold there. And we_ll finish up your first look at the headlines, stateside. American authorities have charged a young man with two counts of arson in connection to a fire that caused 400 MILLION dollars worth of damage to a US Navy submarine. 24-year old Casey James Fury is suspected of setting the blaze last May, and then attempting to spark a second fire last month.Fury was contracted as a painter and sandblaster aboard the USS Miami while it was docked for a major overhaul at a naval shipyard in Maine. Though he initially denied the charges, Fury later admitted to starting the fires. He told investigators he did it because he wanted to get out of work. If convicted of either charge he could face life behind bars Erica.I_d say he_s in BIIIIG trouble. What ever happened to calling in sick? Seriously. Burning your place of employment down? Just days before the much anticipated first Presidential debate between President Obama and Mitt Romney, both camps are LOWERING expectations Laura Connor has been following both campaigns and joins us now with the story. What_s happening Laura?Eila, both camps have been complimentary to the other, with each suggesting that their respective competitor has an edge. But some of Romney_s most prominent backers are promising big things. Senator and former candidate John McCain, and New Jersey governor Chris Christie, both say that Romney will shine in Wednesday_s debate in Denver. Christie even goes so far as to suggest that the race will be turned upside down. Meanwhile, Obama has been traveling with former candidate John Kerry, who_s acting as kind of a debate sparring partner. There_s a lot of hype surrounding this first debate Eila and it COULD end up determing who the next president is. I for one can_t wait I think this will be the most watched presidential debate EVER. Things might even get ugly. It_s certainly possible, both sides have accused the other of lying in their ads and Romney even stated that he_ll make sure to set the record straight on Wednesday MUST SEE TV for sure, thanks Laura.In other US political news, a new book claims that President Obama_s FAMILY is costing taxpayers 20 times more than the British Royal Family According to Robert Keith Gray_s Presidential Perks Gone Royal, Obama_s family costs taxpayers 1-point-4 billion dollars a year. That_s around 6 dollars and 50 cents per taxpayer. There_s the secret service, of course, and the cost of taking Air Force One on the campaign trail n which is required. Gray n a Republican activist who_s worked with several GOP Presidents - claims that Obama has 226 staffers who make over 100 thousand dollars a year. But he also mentions various perks the family enjoys. For example, the White House has a movie theatre that_s staffed 24 hours a day.The Supreme Court_s newest term starts On Monday and there are a LOT of high-profile cases that they_re scheduled to hear. Whitney St. John has been scrutinizing their agenda and joins us now with the highlights. Whitney?Eila, one of the cases is Fisher v. University of Texas n which challenges the school_s affirmative action policy. If the court rules against the school, it could have wide-ranging effects on the admission policies of schools across the country. Gay marriage should be another big issue, with cases about the Defense of Marriage Act and California_s Proposition 8 in the pipeline. This term, all eyes will be on Chief Justice John Roberts. The typically-conservative Roberts voted in favor of Obamacare, and analysts will be watching to see if he shows signs of any other against-type rulings. EA) An amazing collection of comic books recently sold for 3 and a half million dollars at auction in New York City. The collection belonged to the late Billy Wright of Virginia. One of his relatives was going through his belongings when they stumbled upon a stack of 345 comics in his basement. RW) And WHAT a find indeed Amongst them was an Action Comics number one from 1938, featuring the very first appearance of Superman. That one sold for 299-thousand. Wright also had Detective Comics number twenty-seven - AKA the first appearance of Batman That comic sold for 523-thousand dollars. And there_s your proof that comic book collecting is more than just a hobby - it_s an investment 2. EA) Is your iPhone_s FaceTime feature having a negative impact on your self-esteem? According to Washington DC-based plastic surgeon, Doctor Robert Sigal (SEE-gull) it most certainly is. EA) Now for an epic story of TINY proportions The Guinness Book of World Records has just confirmed a 72-year old Nepalese man as the shortest person EVER recorded Chandra Bahadur Dangi (CHAN-dra ba-ha-DOOR DAHN-gee) is just 21 and a half inches tall So why_d it take so long for him to be discovered?RW) Probably because Dangi is from a remote mountain village in Nepal, 250 miles west of Katmandu. A contractor noticed him in the village and brought the story to local media. He has five average-size brothers and no one in his family really remembers exactly when he stopped growing. Tuesday was a busy night in US politics with 3 important GOP primaries taking place.PP) And no one is more thrilled today then Mitt Romney. He had quite the night - going 3 for 3.RW) Eila Adams was watching, and joins us now in the newsroom with the latest.EA) Thanks ladies, it was a clean sweep for Mitt Romney He won all three primaries held Tuesday night: Maryland, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia.The victories give Romney more than half of the delegates he needs to clinch the Republican nomination for president. Just as important, it widened the gap between him and his GOP rivals. But his closest competitor, Rick Santorum, said he had no intention of backing down. He_s going to push hard to narrow the gap in the 5 primaries being held on April 24th, including his important home state of Pennsylvania.In other news, parts of Texas are reeling after several huge tornadoes touched down in the Dallas area. According to the National Weather Service, between 6 and 13 twisters hit, destroying hundreds of homes and vehicles. One twister was so powerful that it picked up tractor-trailers and threw them around like toys. Hundreds of passengers were stranded at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport after the extreme weather damaged over a hundred planes. Amazingly, no fatalities have been reported. The recently-freed Columbian hostages have opened up about the ordeal they lived through for over 10 years. The 6 police officers and 4 soldiers say the Farc rebels had them in chains for years - often chained to each other. Two of the hostages managed to escape into the jungle, but after a month of wandering around lost they were recaptured. Doctors have examined the hostages and say that they are all in relatively good health. It_s unknown how many hostages that guerillas still hold, but it_s believed to be at least 100. Here_s the story. It_s officially OVER The NFL and the referees_ union have reached a tentative eight-year deal. The new agreement will see the average salary for officials rise from 149-thousand dollars a year to 173-thousand in 2013. Officials will also get to keep their current pension plan, which was originally a major sticking point in negotiations.The union will ratify the deal over the weekend in Dallas. It will require approval from 51-percent of its 121 members. But that_s just a formality. The regular officiating crews will be back in action on Thursday night for the Cleveland-Baltimore game.In other news, a major figure in the US military is facing a number of charges that include sexual misconduct. Brigadier General Jeffrey Sinclair allegedly violated a number of military laws, the most glaring of which being forcible sodomy. Sinclair is the former commander of the Army_s 82nd Airborne Division, one of the most highly-decorated and revered units in the military.Sinclair allegedly had numerous inappropriate relationships with female colleagues during his time in Afghanistan. He was relieved of duty there in May and has since been stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. Sinclair, a 27-year veteran, now faces the military equivalent of a grand jury. The presiding judge will determine whether he will face court martial on the charges. Mexican security forces claim they_ve captured yet another drug lord. Ivan Velazquez Caballero, aka El Taliban and Z-50 n had been a commander with the notorious Zetas drug gang. Velazquez was known for his brutality, and controlled some of the most important drug routes between the US and Mexico. He had a reward of 2-point-3 million dollars for his capture. This is your News Off The TopEcuadorian president Rafael Correa says the British government would be quote suicidal to enter Ecuador_s embassy in London to arrest Julian Assange. According to Correa, doing so would set a nasty precedent for other nations to violate British embassies around the globe. Correa has been frustrated by the UK_s treatment of Ecuador during the ordeal, calling the British foreign office_s behaviour unacceptable and intolerable. Julian Assange has been holed up in Ecuador_s embassy for two months now. Assange claims that if he_s extradited to Sweden, he will then be sent to the US, where he could face the death penalty for his role in WikiLeaks. In other news, US President Barack Obama has drawn a line in the sand when it comes to the conflict in Syria. While the President has yet to order military engagement, he says the use of chemical weapons could prompt a swift response from American forces.Syria currently holds the fourth largest stockpile of chemical weapons on the planet. A Syrian spokesman said the weapons would never be used on Syrian soil, but those statements have done little to assuage international fears. Meanwhile, the American government has struck a major blow against Lebanese militant group Hezbollah. The feds have seized 150 million dollars from a money laundering scheme run by the terrorist organization. The money was being passed through the now-defunct Lebanese Canadian Bank.The DEA says that between 2007 and 2011, Hezbollah wired at least 329 million dollars through the bank as well as other financial institutions. Money generated from drug sales was transferred to the US, where it was used to buy second-hand automobiles. The cars were then shipped to and sold in West Africa, with the profits being wired back to Lebanon. And now you knowThis is just one in a SERIES of recent incidents involving major banks handling money for less than reputable clients. That_s right. The UK_s Standard Chartered Bank got caught hiding funds it made from doing business with Iran, and HSBC_s being investigated for handling funds from Mexican drug cartels. Producers claimed the CORRECT answer was 123456, which they seemingly based on just one isolated report. The couple is suing to get that money back plus damages. The show was dogged with similar charges when a couple lost on another incorrect question in their debut episode.A company called Modern Meadow claims to be in the process of creating leather that even vegetarians can wear, without guilt They claim that within 5 years, they_ll be able to synthetically produce actual leather grown in a lab, with no harm coming to animals It_s all part of a process of artificially nurturing cow cells in a lab, the same process that would create artificial meat, which we told you about recently. In an about-face from their previous match-up, the President spent much of the ninety minutes on the offensive, challenging his opponent on the economy, foreign policy, and women_s issues. Marina Valmont was taking notes and joins us now with her analysis. Thanks, Kat. Although it certainly wasn_t a trouncing, most analysts believe Obama scored a clear victory over the former Massachusetts Governor. One particularly strong exchange had the president taking Romney to task for implying he used last month_s embassy attack in Libya for political gain. For his part, Governor Romney attempted to hammer away at the President over the economy and America_s reliance on foreign oil. All in all it was a contentious debate with each candidate doing what needed to be done to energize their base. The last of the three presidential debates is set for Monday, October 22nd in Boca Raton, Florida and will focus on foreign policy. Kat? So how would you describe the mood in the Obama camp today? Very pleased Kat. More than anything they were looking to change the narrative of the past couple of weeks and slow down Romney_s momentum. And the President_s team feels he was able to pull this off. The next one should be a wild one, thanks Marina. In health news, U.S. investigators have raided a Massachusetts drug company that_s been linked to a recent outbreak of fungal meningitis. The move comes after 200 people in 15 U.S. states were hit with the illness as a result of contaminated pharmaceutical products. The FDA believes the outbreak stemmed from sterility issues at the New England Compounding Center in Boston. As a safety precaution, the FDA is urging doctors to avoid prescribing any of the company_s products, specifically its line of heart drugs and steroids. Also in the New England area, the state of Maine fell victim to a rather unusual event on Tuesday: an earthquake Yes, we kid you not. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, it registered 4.6 on the Richter scale. Eila Adams has the story. Kat, when you think earthquakes, the northeastern state of Maine doesn_t typically come to mind. But sure enough, the southern area of the state was rattled Tuesday night, with tremors felt as far away as Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York. And although there were no reported injuries, residents reported a loud bang, followed by several seconds of shaking. In fact, many immediately assumed their furnaces had blown up. After sequencing the DNA, they claim the seagrass is somewhere between 100,000 to 200-thousand years old. That eclipses the old record that a Tasmanian plant holds of a mere 43-thousand years young. That_s coming up in your News off The Top as well as THESE stories. In our top story today, the American government has started a massive cleanup project to remove contamination from its use of Agent Orange during the Vietnam War. During the conflict, US troops dumped millions of gallons of toxic chemicals over dense jungle areas to expose the enemy. Millions of Vietnamese have suffered from health problems, including deformities, in the years since. The US government has now put 41 million dollars towards clean up efforts. The war ended in 1975, and though Vietnamese officials say the gesture is a little late, it is still greatly appreciated. We all know it_s been a brutally hot summer in the US. Scorching temperatures and record drought have crippled many regions. But just HOW brutal wasn_t apparent until now. Eila Adams joins us with some RECORD statistics from the National Climatic Data Center. Eila?Vic the month of July was officially the hottest in recorded history. Even hotter than the infamous Dust Bowl drought of 1936. The average temperature was 77-point-6 degrees - more than 3 degrees above the July average in the 20th century. Not only that, but the last 12 months were the warmest the US has ever seen, or at least since record keeping began back in 1895. Climate scientists blame localized heat and global warming for the searing temperatures, which have triggered a devastating drought. And in a crushing blow to Columbian organized crime, the head of the drug cartel founded by the late Pablo Escobar has been arrested. Columbian officials say that Erikson Vargas Cardona AKA Sebastian will now be extradited to the United States. This is the latest blow to the infamous cartel founded by Escobar, who at one time was said to be the 7th richest man in the world. Columbian President Juan Manuel Santos evoking the spirit of the Olympics - gave the arresting officers symbolic gold medals for their efforts. Although I_m sure they would have appreciated the actual hardware, it was still a nice touch Vic. Thank you Eila. Coming up, we_ve got our Boob of the Week. This is your News Off The Top.British authorities have charged two ex-News of the World editors - Rupert Murdoch protege Rebekah Brooks and here_s the big one, David Coulson, the former aid to British PM, David Cameron, along with six others. They_ve all been charged for their roles in intercepting the communications of over 600 people.A list of the alleged victims will be released shortly, but it is thought to include big name stars such as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Wayne Rooney, and Sir Paul McCartney. Five other senior tabloid journalists are being charged, as well as a private investigator whose detailed notes have been at the center of the scandal from day one.In other news today, an Afghan police commander and 13 junior officers have defected to join forces with the Taliban. This was in the western province of Farah, one of the most violent areas of the region. The men took valuable equipment and heavy weaponry - including rocket-propelled grenades, machine guns, and a number of US-made armoured Humvees - with them. Intelligence officials say the police commander poisoned seven policemen who refused to defect. Over the past few years, Afghan forces had driven Taliban insurgents out of the area. But local sources say the terrorist group is regaining its foothold there. And we_ll finish up your first look at the headlines, stateside. American authorities have charged a young man with two counts of arson in connection to a fire that caused 400 MILLION dollars worth of damage to a US Navy submarine. 24-year old Casey James Fury is suspected of setting the blaze last May, and then attempting to spark a second fire last month.Fury was contracted as a painter and sandblaster aboard the USS Miami while it was docked for a major overhaul at a naval shipyard in Maine. Though he initially denied the charges, Fury later admitted to starting the fires. He told investigators he did it because he wanted to get out of work. If convicted of either charge he could face life behind bars Erica.I_d say he_s in BIIIIG trouble. What ever happened to calling in sick? Seriously. Burning your place of employment down? Just days before the much anticipated first Presidential debate between President Obama and Mitt Romney, both camps are LOWERING expectations Laura Connor has been following both campaigns and joins us now with the story. What_s happening Laura?Eila, both camps have been complimentary to the other, with each suggesting that their respective competitor has an edge. But some of Romney_s most prominent backers are promising big things. Senator and former candidate John McCain, and New Jersey governor Chris Christie, both say that Romney will shine in Wednesday_s debate in Denver. Christie even goes so far as to suggest that the race will be turned upside down. Meanwhile, Obama has been traveling with former candidate John Kerry, who_s acting as kind of a debate sparring partner. There_s a lot of hype surrounding this first debate Eila and it COULD end up determing who the next president is. I for one can_t wait I think this will be the most watched presidential debate EVER. Things might even get ugly. It_s certainly possible, both sides have accused the other of lying in their ads and Romney even stated that he_ll make sure to set the record straight on Wednesday MUST SEE TV for sure, thanks Laura.In other US political news, a new book claims that President Obama_s FAMILY is costing taxpayers 20 times more than the British Royal Family According to Robert Keith Gray_s Presidential Perks Gone Royal, Obama_s family costs taxpayers 1-point-4 billion dollars a year. That_s around 6 dollars and 50 cents per taxpayer. There_s the secret service, of course, and the cost of taking Air Force One on the campaign trail n which is required. Gray n a Republican activist who_s worked with several GOP Presidents - claims that Obama has 226 staffers who make over 100 thousand dollars a year. But he also mentions various perks the family enjoys. For example, the White House has a movie theatre that_s staffed 24 hours a day.The Supreme Court_s newest term starts On Monday and there are a LOT of high-profile cases that they_re scheduled to hear. Whitney St. John has been scrutinizing their agenda and joins us now with the highlights. Whitney?Eila, one of the cases is Fisher v. University of Texas n which challenges the school_s affirmative action policy. If the court rules against the school, it could have wide-ranging effects on the admission policies of schools across the country. Gay marriage should be another big issue, with cases about the Defense of Marriage Act and California_s Proposition 8 in the pipeline. This term, all eyes will be on Chief Justice John Roberts. The typically-conservative Roberts voted in favor of Obamacare, and analysts will be watching to see if he shows signs of any other against-type rulings. EA) An amazing collection of comic books recently sold for 3 and a half million dollars at auction in New York City. The collection belonged to the late Billy Wright of Virginia. One of his relatives was going through his belongings when they stumbled upon a stack of 345 comics in his basement. RW) And WHAT a find indeed Amongst them was an Action Comics number one from 1938, featuring the very first appearance of Superman. That one sold for 299-thousand. Wright also had Detective Comics number twenty-seven - AKA the first appearance of Batman That comic sold for 523-thousand dollars. And there_s your proof that comic book collecting is more than just a hobby - it_s an investment 2. EA) Is your iPhone_s FaceTime feature having a negative impact on your self-esteem? According to Washington DC-based plastic surgeon, Doctor Robert Sigal (SEE-gull) it most certainly is. He says he_s seen a major rise in patients seeking facelift surgery because they don_t like how they look when they use the video chat feature of their phones. EA) Now for an epic story of TINY proportions The Guinness Book of World Records has just confirmed a 72-year old Nepalese man as the shortest person EVER recorded Chandra Bahadur Dangi (CHAN-dra ba-ha-DOOR DAHN-gee) is just 21 and a half inches tall So why_d it take so long for him to be discovered?RW) Probably because Dangi is from a remote mountain village in Nepal, 250 miles west of Katmandu. A contractor noticed him in the village and brought the story to local media. He has five average-size brothers and no one in his family really remembers exactly when he stopped growing. Tuesday was a busy night in US politics with 3 important GOP primaries taking place.PP) And no one is more thrilled today then Mitt Romney. He had quite the night - going 3 for 3.RW) Eila Adams was watching, and joins us now in the newsroom with the latest.EA) Thanks ladies, it was a clean sweep for Mitt Romney He won all three primaries held Tuesday night: Maryland, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia.The victories give Romney more than half of the delegates he needs to clinch the Republican nomination for president. Just as important, it widened the gap between him and his GOP rivals. But his closest competitor, Rick Santorum, said he had no intention of backing down. He_s going to push hard to narrow the gap in the 5 primaries being held on April 24th, including his important home state of Pennsylvania.In other news, parts of Texas are reeling after several huge tornadoes touched down in the Dallas area. According to the National Weather Service, between 6 and 13 twisters hit, destroying hundreds of homes and vehicles. One twister was so powerful that it picked up tractor-trailers and threw them around like toys. Hundreds of passengers were stranded at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport after the extreme weather damaged over a hundred planes. Amazingly, no fatalities have been reported. The recently-freed Columbian hostages have opened up about the ordeal they lived through for over 10 years. The 6 police officers and 4 soldiers say the Farc rebels had them in chains for years - often chained to each other. Two of the hostages managed to escape into the jungle, but after a month of wandering around lost they were recaptured. Doctors have examined the hostages and say that they are all in relatively good health. It_s unknown how many hostages that guerillas still hold, but it_s believed to be at least 100. Here_s the story. It_s officially OVER The NFL and the referees_ union have reached a tentative eight-year deal. The new agreement will see the average salary for officials rise from 149-thousand dollars a year to 173-thousand in 2013. Officials will also get to keep their current pension plan, which was originally a major sticking point in negotiations.The union will ratify the deal over the weekend in Dallas. It will require approval from 51-percent of its 121 members. But that_s just a formality. The regular officiating crews will be back in action on Thursday night for the Cleveland-Baltimore game.In other news, a major figure in the US military is facing a number of charges that include sexual misconduct. Brigadier General Jeffrey Sinclair allegedly violated a number of military laws, the most glaring of which being forcible sodomy. Sinclair is the former commander of the Army_s 82nd Airborne Division, one of the most highly-decorated and revered units in the military.Sinclair allegedly had numerous inappropriate relationships with female colleagues during his time in Afghanistan. He was relieved of duty there in May and has since been stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. Sinclair, a 27-year veteran, now faces the military equivalent of a grand jury. The presiding judge will determine whether he will face court martial on the charges. Mexican security forces claim they_ve captured yet another drug lord. Ivan Velazquez Caballero, aka El Taliban and Z-50 n had been a commander with the notorious Zetas drug gang. Velazquez was known for his brutality, and controlled some of the most important drug routes between the US and Mexico. He had a reward of 2-point-3 million dollars for his capture.
