Uber wants to fine tardy passengers who keep drivers waiting The ride-sharing service is currently testing out a program where users pay EXTRA if they are more than 2 minutes late for a pick-up. So if a driver waited 7 minutes, you_d have to pay for an extra five minutes of that ride. The company is ALSO trialing out a new cancellation fee of up to 10 DOLLARS if the trip is aborted more than 2 minutes into a call. Suddenly, taxis aren_t looking that bad And, the government of Venezuela has introduced a TWO DAY work week for public servants to save on electricity The country is in the middle of a DEVASTATING drought bought on by El Nino. That means that the water levels required to produce hydroelectricity are running dangerously low. Other emergency measures already in place include school closures and 4-hour rolling blackouts. Officials are even considering putting the clocks FORWARD by half an hour to reduce demand in the evening. Mr. Donald J Trump Love him or hate him, there_s no denying The Donald was the most-talked about person of the last twelve months. He_s a master at generating headlines, and no matter where you looked this year he was causing controversy. He kicked the hype machine into full gear in June by finally doing something he_d been hinting at for YEARS: running for President. The YUUUGE announcement was just one part of a bizarre press conference that saw Trump ramble on about everything from the weak Obama administration to how America was losing to China. But it was his take on Mexican immigrants that drew the most headlines. Trump_s wall comments triggered a YUUUGE backlash amongst left wingers and even became the focal point of a South Park episode. You_d think a statement insulting the 50-plus million Hispanics in the US would be political suicide. I mean, just ask Mitt Romney. Spanish language broadcaster Univision quickly announced it would NOT be airing Trump_s Miss Universe beauty pageant. NBC released a statement saying they were ending their business partnership with Trump, effectively ending his role on The Apprentice. But then a funny thing happened. Trump surged to the LEAD in the GOP polls. It became clear pretty quickly that he was willing to do and say things that the rest of his Republican opponents - or puppets as Trump called them - would not. His antics and off-the-cuff remarks turned the GOP debates into must-see-TV events. And stodgy candidates like poor Jeb Bush just couldn_t keep up. And when Trump wasn_t tangling with the other candidates, he was locking horns with the debate moderators Things got testy when Fox anchor Megyn Kelly brought up his less-than-stellar record in dealing with women. Trump_s supporters loved his take-no-prisoners approach, and The Donald wasn_t done there. He repeatedly bullied Kelly on Twitter. Again, you_d think alienating 53-percent of your voter base would be a TERRIBLE political move, but Trump just kept cruising along. And then guess what happened? NBC came knocking with hat in hand and asked him to HOST SNL So much for the moral high ground. Say what you want about the overall quality of the episode, but Trump helped SNL get its highest ratings in years At this point it doesn_t really matter what he says or does, people just want to see more of him. He_s in the headlines every day - for better or worse - and that_s certainly helped him in the polls. It_s become the year_s longest-running joke, and it kinda reminds me of that old Eddie Murphy bit about voting for Jessie Jackson. Owners have up to 60 days to register or face fines of up to 250 thousand dollars. And Expedition 46 successfully launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, in Kazakhstan Tuesday. There are 3 astronauts on board, on their way to the International Space Station. NASA astronaut Tim Kopra, cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko, and British astronaut Tim Peake will remain on the ISS until June next year. The group will be working on numerous research projects, including testing out an inflatable capsule that could be used for future space habitation. The officer_s name is redacted in court papers, but sources are naming him as Taiwan-born Lieutenant Commander Edward C. Lin. Lin reportedly worked in maritime reconnaissance for the US Navy and is alleged to have passed data on to the Chinese government. If he_s found guilty, he COULD face the death penalty. Uber has agreed to pay out 10 MILLION dollars to settle charges that it misled customers about driver background checks California prosecutors sued the ride-sharing company back in 2014 after they claimed that their screening program was the most comprehensive in the industry. It_s since been revealed that Uber relies on name searches through DMV records and criminal databases, while taxi drivers must undergo a more thorough fingerprint check. And, ANOTHER big name rock star has cancelled a concert in response to the new religious freedom laws Bryan Adams has bowed out of his upcoming April 14th gig in Biloxi, Mississippi. In a post on his official Instagram, the rocker said that he could not perform in a state where people are being denied civil rights due to their sexual orientation. It_s the second recent high-profile cancellation by a music superstar since the legislation came into law-Bruce Springsteen pulled out of a show in North Carolina for similar reasons last week. If the lawmakers won_t listen to reason Kat, maybe THIS will get their attention Both states are also feeling the pinch from reduced tourism as well so...I think it_s just a matter of time before these laws get reversed. Here she is with a Naked News Bulletin. An Iranian court has thrown a US journalist in prison. Washington Post reporter Jason Rezain was convicted last month of a number of charges including espionage and crimes against national security. The length of his sentence has not been revealed, but the charges are believed to carry a maximum penalty of 20 years. Rezain is an Iranian-American who had spent more than 15 months in jail awaiting a verdict. He was arrested at his home in Tehran in July 2014, where he_d worked for the last two years as a correspondent. The Washington Post says Rezain_s trial and sentence are a sham, and that he should be released immediately. An outbreak of E. coli linked to the Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurant chain has now expanded to six states across the US. Cases were first reported in Oregon and Washington a few weeks ago, and have since popped up in Minnesota, California, New York, and Ohio. 45 people have been affected, with 43 of them saying they_d eaten at Chipotle in the week before they got sick. Inspectors from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are still trying to determine the specific food item that is causing the illnesses. And then there were three. San Diego Zoo officials mourned the passing of Nola this weekend. The 41-year old northern white rhino was one of just four of her kind left in the world. Nola had been fighting a bacterial infection near her right hip. The three remaining members of the critically endangered species reside on a preserve in Kenya. Poaching for the rhino_s horn has brought the breed to the brink of extinction. It_s not ALL bad news though Peyton, the San Diego Zoo has female SOUTHERN rhinos and they_re hoping to implant embryos they took from the northern white, to try and keep the species going.Aw, that_s really sad.
