California has rejected Volkswagen_s plans for a state-wide recall of vehicles affected by the emissions testing scandal. Officials said that Volkswagen_s proposal did not provide enough information on how the recall would be carried out or how the fix would affect future emissions testing. The US Environmental Protection Agency released its own statement saying that it backed California_s decision. Volkswagen said that they would continue to work with US officials to find a resolution. The Royal Bank of Scotland is in panic mode advising clients to sell everything ahead of what it predicts will be a cataclysmic year for financial markets The bank_s credit chief Andrew Roberts cited falling oil prices volatility in China and rising debt as a few of the major warning signs of impending doom. His warning even includes a comparison of current market trends to what it was like pre-2008 just before the collapse of Lehman Brothers. And he may have a point as far as the price of oil is concerned. Oil continues to plummet on the open market with cost of a barrel sinking below thirty dollars for the first time since 2003. Prices have fallen 72 percent in the last 19 months. Experts are warning that it could get worse before it gets better with oversupply reduced demand in China plus a strong US dollar all working together to create the perfect storm for further drops. Of course some people like to explore space from home and China has a new tool to do it with Installation was just completed on the world_s largest radio telescope The Five Hundred Meter Aperture Spherical Telescope FAST for short has a diameter of over 16-hundred feet making it roughly the size of thirty soccer fields The telescope which will be used to explore the universe and also look for extraterrestrial life took over five years to build. And with all our new ways to explore space it_s nice to know our old ones aren_t being forgotten NASA has extended its contract for the Hubble Space Telescope_s operation for another 5 years. The telescope was launched in 1990 and was only intended to be in use until 2005. In 2018 it will be joined in the cosmos by NASA_s James Webb Space Telescope supplanting Hubble as space_s top observatory I_ve got to say Eila. With the loosening of sanctions against Iran last year it was only a matter of time before an American company closed a big deal and it looks like it_s going to be Boeing The aircraft maker announced their intentions to sell jetliners to Iran Air pending American government approval. According to various Iranian officials the contract could be for a hundred planes and be worth as much as 25 BILLION dollars If it goes through it_ll be the biggest business agreement between the two countries since the Iranian revolution in 1979. And new Federal Aviation Administration rules bring us that much closer to the age of drones delivering packages The current laws concerning COMMERCIAL use of drones require their operators to have a PILOT_S LICENCE and apply on a case-by-case basis Under the new regulations taking effect in August commercial drones can be operated by a pilot over 16 years old who_s passed a written test. Of course the rule that the drones have to stay within the pilot_s line of sight will prevent drone deliveries from being a realistic option for awhile. We_ll be right back. A Bloomberg poll released Tuesday showed Clinton leading her presidential rival Donald Trump 49 percent to 37 percent among likely voters. The poll was carried out on Friday to Monday with the Orlando attack having little to no impact on people_s presidential preference. It_s not ALL good news for the Democrats though hackers believed to have been working for the Russian government successfully breached the computer network of the Democratic National Committee. Though it seems no financial or personal information was stolen the hackers DID have access to all emails and chat traffic in the system. They also got their hands on all the Democrats_ opposition research on Donald Trump. It_s believed that these hacks are political in nature done to advance Russia_s foreign intelligence. And former Italian prime minister and media tycoon Silvio Berlusconi underwent open heart surgery on Tuesday. The 79-year-old endured a successful four hour operation and is now in recovery. Berlusconi served as prime minister four times but has seen his power diminished following several scandals including convictions for tax fraud and bribery. Still I_m glad he_s doing better Carli.
